I live in the West of my East. I dream Hebrew, I speak Arabic. I was born in Bagdhad and
grew up in Jerusalem. I moved to Tel Aviv, studied at The Hebrew University, Harvard and
Yale and traveled to Amman, Gaza and the West Bank.
The Arab Spring turned the Middle East into a land of risks and opportunities. Only experience can determine between the two. Anyone wishing to engage with the
region - investment opportunities, risk analysis or political assessment - must be prepared to rethink conventional wisdom.
My teaching, research and consulting reflects my understanding of the Middle East realities.
It based on perceptions of shifting boundaries rather than static boundaries, by multiple
identities and fluid loyalties rather than single identities and fixed loyalties.
My divorce from the rigidity of an "all or nothing" perceptions has enabled me to
balance between the poetry of visions and ideologies and the prose of Middle East tragic
landscape. My research and engagement in policy processes and design has taught me that in the
Middle East many leaders and governments do not see themselves solving deep conflicts and bitter
disputes as much as transforming them.
